A beginner/refresher workshop to learn new skills or brush up on old ones! Get to know your sewing machine and leave with a machine sewn tote bag . The workshop is aimed at those new to using asewing machine or those who’ve not used one for a while! You will learn the essentials: how to thread your sewing machine, wind a bobbin, change needles, adjust stitch tension for different fabrics and how to guide fabric to sew in a straight line! Then you will apply these skills as you sew seams, turn corners and top stitch to create your own tote bag. All materials will be provided.

Scarlett’s Wool and Craft Shop workshop space is at the back of her shop. Being surrounded by shelves of beautifully coloured wools gives the space a warm and cosy feel. At the front of the shop there are locally hand made delights that are bound to inspire you as you learn to use your machine. Coupled with a friendly smile from Scarlett, everything knits together (sorry…couldn’t resist!) to make a relaxed and welcoming space to learn in.

If you cant make a workshop date, why not book a 1 to 1 session? Within the comfort of your own home, this can be a great option if your spare time is limited or if travelling and /or transport is difficult.

Don’t have a sewing machine ? Try before you buy! Book to use a machine when you book your place.

Please arrive 10 minutes early to set up your sewing machine

What to bring: Your sewing machine and the manual if you have it! Sewing machine needles and fabric cutting scissors.

Materials provided: A range of fabric swatches including polycotton, linen, silk, velvet, satin. Tote bag materials. A Beginners Guide handout with step by step photographs and some tips for using your machine

Please note; when using your own machine, please make sure it is full working order. The workshop is a group event and there won’t be time to stop and fix machines that do not work from the start! Refunds can not be issued for workshops attended with faulty machines. Every effort will be made to provide an alternative depending on availability.

Suitable for Ages 12 years * to Senior Citizens. Please note that children under the age of 18 must be signed in and out by an adult .*Vikki is DBS checked.

Cancellations: 48 hours notice is required if you need to cancel. You will be offered an alternative date or a refund. If less than 48 hours notice is given, you will be offered an alternative date rather than a refund.

Mae Kandoo reserves the right to reschedule or cancel workshops. Should this situation arise, you will be either be issued a refund or transferred onto the next available workshop.

Drinks are provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you would prefer.

Accessibility: Flat level access to the studio . Toilet facilities are not suitable for wheelchair users.
